There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are situated in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of most borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel complex that contains many amenities accompanying the gambling den, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
